I am now working with the National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA) to develop something called the NEDA Coach/Trainer Toolkit. It will be an online and printed set of materials that will help educate athletic coaches and trainers about eating disorders. Our goal is to help these professionals recognize early signs of eating-disordered behavior among their athletes, understand the serious physical consequences of such behaviors, and collaborate with parents, doctors, nutritionists and therapists to sensitively treat the athlete and get her or him back onto the playing field, court or arena as quickly as possible. I'm lucky to be working with a great team of experts from academic institutions, treatment centers and athletic organizations on this project, which is slated for completion in late spring/early summer 2010.

You can view other versions of the NEDA Toolkits on the organization's Web site,

including the NEDA Educator Toolkit and NEDA Parent Toolkit.
